A Day at Hot Springs National Park
Hot Springs National Park is home to 47 thermal springs and seven hiking trails that wind through some of the most breathtaking scenery on the planet. The park also features several historic sites including The Grand Promenade—a brick walkway lined with stately fountains—and The Fordyce Bathhouse Museum where visitors can learn about the history of bathhouse culture in America.
One of the best ways to experience all that Hot Springs has to offer is by taking a guided tour. These tours are led by knowledgeable guides who provide insight into not only the history and geology of the park but also its diverse wildlife population. You’ll be able to spot everything from black bears and wolverines to bald eagles and ospreys.
Aside from its abundant wildlife, Hot Springs was once home to Native Americans who used its thermal springs for healing purposes dating back thousands of years. Today, visitors can still enjoy a dip in these natural hot springs pools located throughout the park’s various campgrounds and picnic areas. It’s a great way to relax after a long day out on the trails or touring historic sites within the park’s boundaries.
There are also plenty of activities for families with children at Hot Springs National Park as well as several educational programs designed specifically for kids. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing getaway or an adventure-filled family vacation, Hot Springs has something for everyone!

What to Wear
My clothing recommendations for the Hot Springs varies depending on weather. For hiking pants, my go to are the double peak joggers. If it’s colder, start with a pair of warm leggings.
On top for hiking or climbing, I start with a tri-blend t shirt, and then layer on an SPF pullover if it’s warmer outside, or a smartwool pullover if it’s cool or windy. It can also be rainy or damp at Hot Springs in the winter and spring, so I always have a rain jacket with me! And if it’s really chilly, my go to is the classic Patagonia nano puff. Finally, my go to hiking shoes are merrell siren sports. They’re comfortable, waterproof, and have Vibram soles which are super grippy, which you’ll appreciate for hiking around on any leaves or wet rocks!
Hot Springs National Park is one of Arkansas’ premier outdoor destinations and should not be missed if you’re looking for an unforgettable nature experience! From hiking scenic trails to soaking up some rays at one of its many thermal springs pools, there’s something here for everyone no matter what your age or interests may be! I hope my picks for best trails at Hot Springs help you plan your trip!
As always, please practice Leave No Trace principles when enjoying the outdoors! Check local trail and weather conditions before any hike.
