Wildlife in and around Bryce Canyon National Park ranges far and wide. The array of animals that call the park home include large mammals, such as elk, mule deer, and bighorn sheep; reptiles such as western rattlesnakes, lizards, and rarely seen species of tortoise; numerous bird species including peregrine falcon and bald eagle; plus small animals like jackrabbits, ground squirrels, voles, and foxes. A variety of habitats provide food, water and shelter to these animals so visitors can enjoy seeing them throughout the year. Best Hikes at Bryce Canyon
Rim Trail

The Rim Trail stretches from Fairyland Point (near the northern entrance) all the way to Rainbow Point (at its southernmost point). This 8-mile trail provides spectacular views of Bryce Amphitheater, which is home to some of the most famous hoodoos in the park. The ease of the hike, and excellent condition of the trail make this one of the best hikes at Bryce Canyon. Navajo Loop Trail

Navajo Loop and Queens Garden Loop

It’s common to spot wildlife along the trail, so come prepared with a camera.
Though relatively short in length at 3 miles, it can be more challenging terrain than expected due to rocky terrain and unpredictable trail conditions. Fairyland Loop Trail
Hiking the Fairyland Loop Trail at Bryce Canyon National Park is an adventure for all hikers. The terrain varies from flat sections of terrain that meander through narrow slot canyons, to partly rough terrain where a few steep switchbacks follow longer uphill routes. You may catch a glimpse of some of the local wildlife such as deer and golden eagles soaring overhead. Though suitable for most moderately skilled hikers, it is important to check trail conditions ahead of time in order to determine if the length and difficulty is right for you.
Peek-a-boo Loop Trail
For those wanting a longer trek, this 5-mile loop offers spectacular views from start to finish. Along with providing stunning views of rock formations such as Sinking Ship and Wall Street, this trail also provides plenty of opportunities for wildlife viewing as it winds through meadows full of wildflowers in spring and summer months. Hikers will also be able to spot native birds such as hawks soaring overhead or even catch sight of mule deer roaming through the valley below them.
What to Wear
My clothing recommendations for Bryce Canyon varies depending on when in the season you’re going. If you opt for shorts, I like the Prana double peak shorts, but you might want to start with a pair of warm leggings under them if it’s cold. For hiking pants, my go to are the double peak joggers.
On top, for summer hiking I start with a tri-blend t shirt or tank, and then layer on an SPF pullover if it’s warmer outside, or a smartwool pullover if it’s cold or windy. And I usually carried my rain jacket. Finally, my go to hiking shoes are merrell siren sports. They’re comfortable, waterproof, and have Vibram soles which are super grippy, which you’ll appreciate for hiking on all the sandstone out there!
