History of Goblin Valley

Goblin Valley State Park is a park located in Utah, USA. It was established in 1964 and covers an area of about 3,654 acres. The park’s unique landscape features thousands of mushroom-shaped rock formations, known as hoodoos or goblins, which were created through erosion over millions of years. The park’s remote location and unusual formations attracted little attention until the 1920s when local cowboys discovered it. However, it wasn’t until the 1960s that the state of Utah officially recognized the area’s geological and recreational value and designated it as a state park. Today, Goblin Valley State Park is a popular destination for hiking, camping, and exploring the otherworldly landscape of goblin-like formations.

The best time of year to visit Goblin Valley State Park is typically during the spring and fall seasons. In spring (March to May), you can enjoy milder temperatures, blooming wildflowers, and the chance to witness the rejuvenation of the desert landscape. Summers in Goblin Valley can be scorching, with temperatures exceeding 100°F (38°C), so visiting during this time can be uncomfortable for outdoor activities. What to Wear

My clothing recommendations for the Goblin Valley area varies depending on weather. For hiking pants, my go to are the double peak joggers. If it’s colder, start with a pair of  warm leggings.

On top for hiking or climbing, I start with a tri-blend t shirt, and then layer on an SPF pullover if it’s warmer outside, or a smartwool pullover if it’s cool or windy. And if it’s really chilly, my go to is the classic Patagonia nano puff. Finally, my go to hiking shoes are merrell siren sports. They’re comfortable, waterproof, and have Vibram soles which are super grippy, which you’ll appreciate for hiking around the sandstone!
